How to lose friends and alienate people

There's only two things I hate in this world: People who are intolerant of other people's cultures and the Dutch.
- Nigel Powers

Well, it isn't hatred of the Dutch, but it is intolerance of other people's culture - or because your son got arrested by the authorities of a said country, but I digress - A few weeks ago Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi submitted a proposal to the U.N. to abolish Switzerland and divide it up along linguistic lines, giving parts of the country to Germany, France and Italy. Responses ranged from outrage to mild bemusement, including one clever fellow who argues that the Swiss French should snub France and join up with Quebec instead.

Project: Canadian Club

You've undoubtedly seen the Canadian Club ads around town and in magazines that take a light hearted retro look at how men used to behave - I'm sure they would describe it as a time when men were men and the idea of a metrosexual couldn't even have been imagined. And, of course, these men drank CC. The campaign is called 'Damn Right' and you can view the print ads here. (Sadly the "best" one isn't there? The 'Your dad had a van for a reason' ad. Funny and cringeworthy)

Project: Canadian Club takes on these ads (branding them offensive) and puts their own, clever spin on them. View Project: Canadian Club here.

Travel idea for late September....

Guinness, the black beer of Ireland, sometimes described as 'poetry in a glass' is turning 250 this year. How you choose to celebrate this momentous anniversary is up to you. I recommend it involves drinking Guinness as then your celebration is on steady ground no matter what you choose to do (although that ground can become increasingly unsteady...). Here's one option if you like getting on a plane and want to enjoy Irish culture:

Anniversary bashes are being organized in Dublin and around the world. No doubt conscious that Dec. 31, the actual anniversary, would be overshadowed by New Year's galas, and Arthur Guinness's birthday March 6 was very close to the St. Patrick's Day hoopla (March 17), the Guinness celebrations are scheduled for Sept. 24.
